Re: i replaced my main relay
i suspect, now, from reading, that the main relay in my sister's 87 crx is going out as well. it sometimes will start and then kill right away a few times before deciding to start for real. i read that's a symptom of the main relay going.

Re: i replaced my main relay
If her car starts, idles for like a split second then dies that could be the ignitor in the distributor. Thats what mine was doing before i had it replaced. You might wanna check that. GL

Checked out an online site, which suggested reflowing (resoldering) the relay's little PC board. You can reach this by removing the plastic cover from the top of the relay. You may or may not see little "circular" cracks in the solder joints. If so you can resolder these connections. I used silver bearing solder on my main relay. Re-installed it. Don't even know I have a relay now. Hot, cold or whatever. Always starts. Another thing, in case anyone cares; the relay on my car was on the left hand side of the dash behind that "change' drawer. The Chilton's manual had it drawn behind the fuse block. Yeah, I did go looking for it. Gene |
