Seat questions - potential buyer

Never owned a chevy silverado before however I really am thinking about buying a new 2006.

I really want the leather heated seats mainly because it's good on cold days I would think, and generally if my back is sore the heat would really help I assume.

1. What is more comfortable, the leather or the cloth seats?
2. How warm can the heat go on the leather seats?
3. I have heating pads here at home which go very hot, and really relax my back. Never had heated seats in a vehicle before so just wanted to know is the heat a better experience than heating pads?
4. Is it the full seat, butt and lower back as well as high back that is heated?
5. Also, one more question... on average how long does it take the seats to heat up after you've pressed the button and are sitting?

On my 2000, the seat and lower back heat up. The high setting can get uncomfortably warm. On cold mornings, two or three minutes before the seat is toasty.
That said, I love the heated seats & wouldn't trade them!

I don't have them in my truck, but I miss them in my Passat wagon (that my wife now drives). They were the same there - lower back and seat only. I think that's common. My in-laws' BMW and F-150 are the same.

A new one, do heated seats work with the engine off? (Curious because the heated seats have their own power supply so they don't depend on the actual engine and truck battery?)

Hey,

1. I've had both cloth and leather seats (cloth in a 2000, the leather in 2003) and there really isn't a difference in long-term comfort. I would tend to go with cloth, but guess it's an individual preference. If you have kids the leather is easier to clean up.

2-3. The heated seats have three levels. I usually just use low and maybe sometimes medium. High is pretty warm and I think you'll find it pretty comparable to a heating pad.

4. You can adjust the heat for either back only or for the both the bottom and seat back. The bottom is pretty much just the center of the seat, your rear and thighs. The seat back is also in the center, basically your lower back.

5. They heat up pretty quick, I'd say not much more than a minute. I don't remember how long they stay on for, but believe they cut off automatically after around 10-minutes or so. You can always turn them back on though.

6. No, the heated seats do not work without the car on (on my 2003 they don't) and I think the 2006 is the same seat style.

If you have back troubles sometimes, then I'd suggest the heated seats...especially for long trips. Also, the upgraded leather seats have a real nice lumbar system that I doubt the cloth seats offer. I'm pretty sure you get the power folding mirrors with the leather trim package as well. Those are nice if your garage is to narrow to fit in otherwise.
