Wiring

hey guys i was just wondering i was hookin up some neons today and i had my black wire grounded and red wire hooked to the battery and through a switch and when i go to turn on my switch my wires heat up and start smokin and i just pull the wires right out and they were flamming hot, the wire started melting and stuff i was wodnering if any1 knows how to fix this or even why my wires and melting and smokin out

It sounds like there is a short in the system or the wiring is too small for the amperage draw. You can run the system through a relay and it should eliminate the problem since all the voltage goes through the relay and not the switch itself. The box that the relay comes in will give you instructions on how to install it.

my switch is 10 amps so what would be the best way to wire my neons to the switch without burning the wire and causing a fire?

if the wires are the right gauge for the 10 amps, things shouldnt be geting Hot.
The best way is to install the switch on the negative wire.
Might still need a relay for the neons, they draw alot of current to start them(turn on). So a 10 amp relay Should be enough.
