Re: auto start
If you have a VATS car which I'm assuming you do(little resistor pellet on the key's shaft), you may have a loose connection with the relay the shop used to bypass it. There are 2 wires which run up to the key barrel to read resistance when the key is inserted. When bypassing this under remote start you need to have a relay installed so that the vehicle will still require the VATS key under normal operation but will manually feed the computer the required resistance under the starter's use. If you are familier with a Relay then this will make sense:
pin 30 -connect to the vehicle side of one of the VATS wires(doesn't matter which one) after it's cut in half pin 87a -At rest this makes an internal connection to pin 30. Connect this to the remaining half of the cut VATS wire. This should be the key-side. This is wire I suspect has become disconnected. Without this connection the computer cannot see the key's resistance under normal starts. When the starter kicks in it will make a connection between 30 and 87 instead where there is a resistor installed. This will allow the vehicle to start. pin 87 -When the relay latches(switches on) the internal connection changes to this and pin 30. Using a OHM meter measure the resistance across the metal contacts of the key's pelet. Attach the appropriate resistors to this wire and connect it to the other uncut VATS wire pin 85 -interchangeable with pin 86. connect to the remote starter's ground-out when running wire(called status on DEI products) pin 86 -connect to 12volts Kinda long winded but hopefully it helps someone. For an internal view of a Relay go to http://www.the12volt.com Beene |
