A real brain teaser-for strong minded

1997 Taurus GL Sedan 3.0L 130K, so i came out of work the other day and started the car and i couldnt get it into gear due to the shift interlock not releasing, started looking around came to find that everytime i step on the brakes all the power on the inside of my car would shut up such as wipers, locks, windows radio, lights etc... I disconnected the brake pedal switch after seeing that when I push the brakes my brake lights werent working, I disconnected the shift linkage put it in drive and drove it home, to find out during the drive my power steering was not working so I decided to throw on my hazards and drive slow, my hazards flashed twice and made a loud continuous squealing noise, I checked all the fuses and relays, most of all the visible wires. I jumped the brake pedal position switch and when I did that all the power cut out like it was before but still no brake lights and i cant shift cause the shift interlock wont release. So what do you guys think?

Re: A real brain teaser-for strong minded

Sounds like some of your issues may be related to a faulty Transmission Range Sensor (TRS). You can perform a search on this forum for TRS or Range and determine if you think that is worth pursuing.

Now where did I put those Taurus wiring diagrams.....

Re: A real brain teaser-for strong minded

I agree it is most likely a faulty NSPS/TRS.

Re: A real brain teaser-for strong minded

Why did Ford link everything to the TRS?

Re: A real brain teaser-for strong minded

Years ago a mechanic had an affair with an engineers wife and got caught. The engineers said they would get even. I believe they have.
