Six wheeled supercar.

Bizarre. But oddly enough, not a new idea.

Re: Six wheeled supercar.

What's even stranger than a car with 6 wheels? How about a car with 6 of these wheels.

Very cool stuff.

Actually they are going for speed. With the added grip, corner entering and exiting speeds can be increased, as well as braking capabilities.

true however when you compare that to other supercars or just a corvette..it said its only pushing under 400 hp...and only 300km/h? just doesn't seem like the six wheels are gonna make up for a car that is underpowered like that.

It's really just a test model for advancing the platform I'd say. Once they figure out exactly what they can and cant do with it, then they'll put something more potent in it. But, if you read the article it has something about a 6 wheeled car winning some races back in the day. So it does seem to have some advantages.

It's also not ment to compete with cars in the 500 hp range. Sort of like how the Porshe 911 wouldnt be in the same level with with those cars.
Also, If you put it up against something that's around it's power level(like a mid level Porshe), it could very well come out on top.

Anyway, I think it's cool just because it's inovative.

Re: Six wheeled supercar.

Those cars have been around for a long time though. Some rich collectors in Europe have already bought a few prototypes. That same company had a production model in the late 80s also with 6 wheels but only sold about 30 cars.
Even if its fwd the drive-train loss would be nutz!

i read about this a while ago, having an extra axle also allows use of skinnier wheels up front, which reduces the risk of auqa-planing.

A friend showed me that car in a magazine about 7-8 months ago and thats exactly what I said! It has said it was going to be around 400hp, and I said where? He didn't understand so I told him that 6 wheels AWD with 400hp at the crank will leave you with 65hp by the time it gets to the wheels

But it had asid the vehicle was more for handling than acceleration, and thats where the extra wheels benefitted the car

Re: Six wheeled supercar.

I would think the extra wheels add to the overall weight of the car... and have too much grip.

There is such a thing... could cause a form of uber understeer... or over steer.

I mean, six wheels has been tried before, and it didn't work in racing. I think that's proof enough.

NSX comeats with with the top supercars because what it lacks in power it makes up for in neutral handleing an the ability to enter and exit corners faster and hit the apex sooner pushing other supercars to the outside and behind.

How often is a car going to need to go 300km/h?

Pfb.. my work is 6 miles away, I need a car that'll do 186mph...

What? I like to sleep in... fast car lets me sleep in as long as possible... should roughly get me to work in a minute and half.
