Ferrari 360 Modena (art final)

This was my art final project. Its a pic from 2003 when I went out to LA to see my dad's cousins Ferrari. Its a 2001 Ferrari 360 Modena F1 coupe. The emphisis is plced on the car, not the other stuff, thats why anything other than the car looks kinda crappy. The las pic is the actual pic. It goes from the beginning of the drawing to finishing. Remember this was 2003... Im older now.

Re: Ferrari 360 Modena (art final)

Thanks, I used regular colored pencils. It was supposed to be darker, but the pencils have a habit of coming out way too light, even when I try to darken it, it just doesnt. I really like the wheels too, along with the quarter panal above the front wheel. I think those came out the best.

Re: Ferrari 360 Modena (art final)

if its colored pencils do what i do....
take 10% cool gray of prismas and just make layers/color it on the pencils.... it will look much smoother but it will have a bit of gray tone.... try it (but practis on somthing ealse first..)

Re: Ferrari 360 Modena (art final)

it looks good - well, better than good actually. i know you did this some time ago but i have a question: i don't judge you, but do you still trace? again, i'm not here to judge you, but you will feel better about the end result if you did everything 'yourself'. if you like tracing, that's ok; use whatever tool you want to use. i use a grid (some think that's cheating) now and i think it's more fun than tracing...

Re: Ferrari 360 Modena (art final)

(crying) Yes I traced... But I just couldnt help it. I tried using the grid, but the last time I did that my project (which was the art final for the year before) came out kinda akward. But I traced the outline and more of the basic shapes. But the rest I did freehand. I needed it be good, and freehand and I hate eachother when it comes to perspective. So tracing was solely for perspective. And I dont do much tracing these days, only when Im either in a bind for time (such as this project) or need correct perspective. And to clear up any misunderstanding, the actual picture of me and the Ferrari was taken in 2003. I drew this for my art final like last month. When I said it was 2003, I meant Im not so childish looking anymore. Im downright beautiful nowadays. And the reson my skin and the leather look wierd is because I had no flesh color pencils. So I used a combination of brown, yelloe and grey. I dont think I need to tell you that it didnt come out well.

This is the project I used the grid on.

Yeah well I think you must differ what you want as a result. If you want a photorealistic copy of the pic with an artistic touch, then you will have to practise years to get that done freehand. Then, tracing or using a grid (I don't see such a big difference there) is the better method.

Drawing freehand is an other level. I'd just say that a drawing consists of two parts, linework and color/shading. While you must only take care of color and shading when you trace, for drawing freehand you need your eyes, the feel for dimensions, the feel for a cars proportions, some kind of overview.

I'm doing nothing than freehand, I want to be able to draw with less tools as possible, for me, the drawings look more lively and authentic then. But everybody has his own opion.

I like your drawing as a piece of art. It's not cheating, you only left one part out. That's how I'd call it. The colors are placed very nice, although they could be a bit darker, like others have already mentioned.

Keep it up!

Re: Ferrari 360 Modena (art final)

looks pretty good, just needs to be darker
Did you get a chance to drive it

Once a customer of ours came by w/ her 911 Porsche. She gave me the keys and I took it on some curves and down some hills. It was fun. When I got back I could smell rubber from the tires I said to myself, "I hope that goes away before she gets back into the car!!!"

Anyway, story gets better.

Well it turns out the car wasn't her's but her husbands, plus I left my wallet in her husband's car. Talk about an odd situation.

Re: Ferrari 360 Modena (art final)

Haha Im sure that had a happy ending ... No, I didnt drive it, I was only like 14. But of course I wish I could have driven it. But he sold it for a Lotus Elise (I really dont know why) and now dont have the opportunity to drive it. Perhaps next time I'm in LA I could drive the Lotus? It could happen...

Re: Ferrari 360 Modena (art final)

Pic quality is kinda crappy but the drawing is good. The way you did the background really makes the car stand out. Nice job!
