Turbo Boost question

Hello, I am not familiar with the Turbo 1.8Golf 1.8t Jetta and Beetle but one of my friends just bought a 2003 Beetle TurboS. Its 180hp and we just got a boost controller. Now the beetle has the same engine as the golf so thats why I am going to ask you guys. Its running 7 pounds at the moment which is stock boost. I was told by some guy that it can handle a maximum of 9psi before blowing up. How much Boost can the Beetle's engine handle on a stock turbo ?

Thank you

well, lets begin with " have fun hooking up a manual boost controller"? with nothing else done, it is going to drive the ecu nuts, and end up in limp mode. you need to back alot of other things up before running a manual. as for stock boost in a beetle? not sure, i know they are a little less then due to heat issues ( the engine bay not being as big as the golf or jetta, therefore not as easy to cool down.). i know that spikes of 11-12, and holding 10 were what i saw with mine stock (gti). i would start off with a proven chip from APR, or something like that. that will put up the boost and power considerably. then go from there with other things. its a whole different world then DSM tuning from a turbo standpoint. and as a word of advice, dont put a blow off that vents to the atmosphere either? all it will do is thro codes and cause it to run rich.
