Granatelli Mass Air Flow Sensor

Anyone installed one of these in their Chevy Blazer? I have a 2000 Blazer that is running pretty good except that the mileage could be better. The mileage was really bad until I noticed that the thermostat was not functioning correctly. The truck was running at on 62 degrees so it must have been stuck open. Anyhow, someone at the shop mentioned this Mass Sensor and said he got about 70 to 80 kms extra per tank full of gas, not to mention the added HP.

Any thoughts would be appreciated and also if this can be sourced up here in Canada? I have found it online from the US as cheap is 325 US but would love to get it cheaper and if possible in Canada.

Welcome on your first post on AF.
I would proceed with caution on that one.
What is good for the goose may not be good for the gander or in other words.
What may work on one car may not do good on another one.
If you lean it down to much you may burn valves and pistons.

Do NOT install it on a 4.3L if you want it to run properly.

Many people have installed it only to go back to stock.

Put the money into a good tuneup.

Thanks for the great advice, it makes sense. I will get a good tuneup and see if my mileage does improve. I am getting around 360 to 380 kms on a full tank and I think i should be over 450 no? I believe thats what I was getting before I noticed that my Thermostat needed to be replaced.

I get 400-425 per tank all city driving and that is on a 1995 with 237,000kms on it and big 18 inch wheels and a big subwoofer box in the back.

Do the following and you will get better mileage:

Fuel filter
Spark plugs AC Delco Platinum only
Cap & Rotor
Air Filter
PCV Valve
Transission flush and refill and a new filter
Differential fluid and transfer case fluid change
O2 sensor change if over 150,000kms.

Let me know what has been done. Don't wait any longer to get an improvement, you are not in good shape as it is.

That's what, 250 miles per tank? I get about that also, when I am driving mostly highway I get about 300-310 miles per tank. I do agree with LT however, the MAF you are speaking of willl cause more harm than good, do a good tune up and see if that helps.

I installed a new MAF on my old 88 Mustang GT when it was stock and got close to nothing for a gain. The only true gain came after replacing the heads and cam.

I imagine it would have tot be the same if not worse for a more sophisticated computer controled vehicle such as a Blazer or Jimmy. (ie:4.3L)

You never said if all city stop and go or highway.
Depends on how many miles divided by gallons (Km div liters) to see actual because are you putting 18 gallons in or 15??
Gears also matter cause the 3.73 get lower than the 3.42 and 4wd also is less due to the xfer case and front drivetrain.

I drive servere city with all stop and go and get over 400kms a tank, him getting that low at 350kms to 380kms in either situation is a sign that something isn't up to snuff.

Blast, I didn't think I was doing that bad with ~380km to a tank highway driving. New O2 sensor here I come...

Yeah, I get about 370-380 kms per tank as well with my 2000 Jimmy. All city driving. Even after new plugs, wires, cap and rotor, air filter, oil & lube (all ac delco parts of course). Still getting the same milage. Buy hey, I don't mind feeding a good horse. However, if the horse goes bad, I'm getin my gun!

A 02 sensor will not help unless your old on is bad.
Plus there is 4 or 5 02 sensors on there.

Might want to consider changing the O2 sensor before the cat.

Yeah, I've done pretty well everything else within the last year, save maybe the thermostat...until i heard BlazerLT's mileage I figured just under 400/tank was the best it was going to get. She's still a good horse...but this is getting off topic
