Photoetched welds??????

I have seen people on here use photoetched weld patterns on things. I think they come from the military side of the industry. Does anyone have any info on where to get them or a link to a site with photos?

Thanks for your help.

Re: Photoetched welds??????

I don't know about photoetch, but I use Epoxy putty to make welds on my tanks. The basic way to do it is roll it into a long skinny strip, apply it, then smash it down with a small flathead screwdriver or other small flat edge to give you the weld bead texture. Let it cure and there you have it.

And here you can see what it looks like when it's painted:

Re: Photoetched welds??????

I do it the same way on my model cars, like on intercoolers or intake piping. You can see it here:

Re: Photoetched welds??????

i use the putty method, but i take an old stiff brush and press/roll it onto the putty instead of using a screw driver.

Re: Photoetched welds??????

If you check this thread, there is a rather good how-to using liquid nails and a syringe (needle) The pics are gone so maybe PRIVATEER can be coaxed to fix that on his end but maybe you will get the idea. I think robrex uses it in one of his builds and can elaborate a little more. Great idea although I have never treid it. http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...t=liquid+nails

Re: Photoetched welds??????

The PE welds you are thinking of are made by Aber. They are pretty easy to use and conform to most curves and angles using super glue. You can even curve them sideways like a snake. I added a picture using them on a bike frame, figured I would try them out and see what they looked like. The detail is pretty shallow and would probably be better to cover the surface with tape while priming, at least until the final coat, otherwise I feel too much detail would be lost.

There was a thread in another forum where a guy used them on his F1 exhaust and I thought they looked pretty good. I still pretty much stick to the syringe and putty method.

I picked mine up here if you want to give them a try. They are listed under the 1/35th armor accessories.
