Faking Thieves...Part 2. AKA A woodsy adventure
So some of you know a month or so ago my car was broken into next to my house and they nabbed my head unit and nav unit (AVH-P7500DVD and AVIC-88). Police came out, took the info and the serial numbers I had for them. Suffice to say I felt violated that this would happen. Insurance company paid out (I had a rider) and I installed an AVIC-z1
http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pn...unit=AVIC%20Z1 Beautiful double din unit, have been happy with. Since the break in, I park directly in front of my garage. I know my truck was targeted. So now to last night. I'm in bed at 12:30 watching House on the bedroom DVR trying to fall asleep and my car alarm goes off. (alarm pager was all the way downstairs so didn't hear it beeping). Look at the window and somone is running away. (Now my truck is parked in front of my garage which is right next to my front door). I jump into a pair of shorts and forego shirt or shoes and run down 2 flights of stairs and out the front door before I even had my second or 3rd breath. I run down to the lower townhouses and start creeping around listening for sounds. Just when I was about to give up, the actor broke through the woods and started running past me on the main road. I take off after him, he sees me and starts running like a raped ape.. Now realize, I'm on asphalt in my bare feet and I'm still starting to catch up to this kid.. I chase him through several yards and finally he broke back into the woods. I was 10 feet away and got a real good look at him (as well as his face) but being it was woods and I was in bare feet, I had no other choice but to break off the pursuit. I run back to my place, jump in the truck and start driving around. The people at the local 7-11 know me and I stopped in there to ask if someone had come through. (No one did). As I was walking out in nothing but a pair of shorts (feeling like a hillbilly), a local cop shows up. I tell him what happened. With in 5 minutes (literally) there were 4 cop cars at my house, including a k-9 unit. Based on the desciption that I gave them, one of the cops recognized who the kid probably is and that he's suspected in several car and house break ins in the area. Now, out comes the dog...K-9 handler has me go along to track the actor. (During the interview process I threw on shirt and sneakers). We tracked this kid for almost an hour and a half until we got to a culvert area that was blocked by a high fence. (Couldn't get the dog through). During the track, we found several discarded items. Digital camera, cdplayer, tape adapter for cdplayer and some paperwork. Apparently the kid didn't want to get caught with this stuff on him as he probably go it from other cars in the area. I wonder if he had presense of mind to wipe his finger prints. During this time, cops found 2 teenage girls in a car at the local supermarket in the parking lot talking in thier car on the cell phone. Apparently the kid called them for a ride to get out of town. So they watched them, but the girls finally left and then got pulled over and questioned. Not sure what was found out. So a little dissapointed and covered in a lot of mud and dirt, we return to my house. Other cops went to this kid's house during that period we were out tracking and questioned the family. The suspect was not home. They will pick him up at some point. I'm gonna nail this little farker. Then I'm gonna have them find out what happened to my stuff (who he sold it to) Then I'm gonna sue the goddamn family for not controlling their kid. It's nice to know though that they finally have a suspect. This kid had balls though to walk up to a lighted front door and try to get in my truck. Suffice to say, i've only gotten 3 hours of sleep. Props to the k-9 cop that didn't want to give up, was more cordial than I can explain here, and had a wonderful dog. Hope this kid dies in a fire.

He didn't get anything this time - right?? It's always sweet when the shitheads get identified! Now you need a BIG dog that can reach the perimiter of your truck - that'll scare off anyone.

Re: Faking Thieves...Part 2. AKA A woodsy adventure
Man that sucks. I hope they catch the guy for your sake. I could never understand why kids (or older folks for that matter) would feel the need to steal.
Call it corny or whatever but I have a great feeling when I buy things for my car or home. Makes me feel like I earned it. Just sucks that all it takes is one little ass to take it all away. But like I said I hope they catch him and just nail his balls to the ground. Good luck!

Re: Faking Thieves...Part 2. AKA A woodsy adventure
Sounds like your laws are better than Canada, were we can't go after the creeps family. If they scratch their little finger on na window that they broke here we're libal.
So that basicly means that if I ever catch 1 they won't be able to talk afterwords. |

Re: Faking Thieves...Part 2. AKA A woodsy adventure
Wasn't it in florida where they passed some sort of law that basically says your car is considered property and therefore you could shoot someone that's on your property?
I had some asshole break into my car while I was away on vacation for 2 weeks (was parked inside a parking garage) I had nothing of value in sight, what he did take was a bunch of copied cd's in the armrest and a pair of broken rayban's I had in the glove compartment Total damage = $700, total of stuff taken < $40 |

Re: Faking Thieves...Part 2. AKA A woodsy adventure
My lord you were lucky to stumble on him like that.
He is young and unexperienced seeing he is not being smart with his work. Being ballsy and breaking into an alarmed vehicle in front of a motion sensored front light system is a sign of a teenage prick with too much time on his hands. He will be caught, it is just a matter of time. He also will be back......

Re: Faking Thieves...Part 2. AKA A woodsy adventure
if i rememer right, up here in Ct you can blast someone after they broke through 2 locked doors... stupid. but my father bein a cop, said if someones playin around outside, pop 'em, then kick 2 doors in, and drag his ass through it. ive had my blazer tamperd with twice up here. they werent affraid of the german shepard that has gotten us 2 lawsuits. so i sat in the back of the blazer one night, with the cargo mat covering me in the back, and when he tried to get in, i pushed the rear hatch open, and chased him with a crowbar. last time that bastard has ever tried to touch "black betty".

Re: Faking Thieves...Part 2. AKA A woodsy adventure
Sorry to say that I don't believe in hurting a trespasser unless they do something wrong.
Give the man a chance first, it might just be someone broken down close by trying to get some help. I broke down late at night once when the chain on my motorbike broke. I walked down the only road in the area (very quiet) and knocked at the only house with lights on inside. I was really glad that the very nice old woman answered the door and left me use her phone. And since I had tried a temp fix I was really filthy as well. She was also nice enough to let me park my motorbike on her driveway for the night as well. My $5,000 motorcycle was still there in the morning, and I sure didn't hesitate spending about $50.00 on flowers for her the next day. |

Re: Faking Thieves...Part 2. AKA A woodsy adventure
Well, there's a difference between someone looking for help versus rifling around in your car or garage. Just had someone the other night ring my doorbell around 11PM - his truck had broken down a couple hundred yards from my house and I was the only place with lights on. Scared the hell out of me when I heard footsteps on my front porch before the doorbell rang. Gave him my phone, he made his call, thanked me and walked back to his truck until his friend arrived.
Had he gone in my garage or started fiddling around with the doors into the house, a warning shot may have been heard in the night. I personally wouldn't whack anybody unless they pulled something on me first. Michigan doesn't have the friendliest laws regarding defending yourselves - your life has to be in danger before you can get away with it. I don't think someone running off with my car radio would qualify, unless the person had a weapon on them. Even then you have to prove they tried to use it. I like the story about hiding in the cargo area with the crowbar - I'd love to have seen the look on that guys face. |
