..:A Thread For Any Help I need:..

I need to feel special...lol..kidding. I may need alot of help soon for my comp but no problems now, so I started a thread so I can keep it in one place.

My first question:

The computer can't play sound. It says there is no sound device, and I have the one (outta two) that is enabled. The other one is disabled because it only works for abit (just once) then thats it. The one I have enabled sometimes when I restart my comp, it won't work after that. What I would have to do is turn off my speakers, then I unplug the power, reboot then after a minute or two replug the power, hook the speakers back up and it works! Recently I had to restart my comp and I did what I usually do, but now it don't work, I keep trying but nothing. So what I need is a way to permanently keep it working all the time. Anyone have any ideas what could be causing this?

p.s. If more info is needed, just say so.

Re: ..:My Thread For Any Help I need:..

I think this is what your asking for:

Dell Dimension 2400 Series
Intel(R)
Celeron(R) CPU 2.20GHz
2.19 GHz, 512 MB of RAM

Windows XP Home Edition
Service Pack2

Unimodem Half-Duplex Audio Device-the one I disable, because it hardly works.
SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio-the one that is enabled.

If you needed somthing else, be more specific so I know what to look up.

Have you got the motherboard driver cd and tried reinstalling the onboard audio drivers?

If I can find the CD, I'll try that and get back to you.

Re: ..:My Thread For Any Help I need:..

Adjusted all volume controls? Working speakers? Correct plug out of 3 on the motherboard?

If you double click on SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio in device manager, what does it say under Device Status?

I can't adjust the speaker volume as it says no Sound Device.
Speakers work. Correct Plug, yes.

I double-clicked it and it says "This Device Is Working Properly."

and I can't find the CD for the motherboard.

If there is no sound device, but device manager reports it as working properly, open it in Device Manager again, right click and go to Properties again. Click Uninstall and remove it. Reboot your system and it should reinstall. See if the Windows Volume Control reports a sound device then.

memory card as in RAM? First, you need to find out what kind of ram your motherboard takes--either DDR or SD (most popular types). I'm a student at a school that uses mostly dells, and all the newer ones have DDR...so yours is probably DDR.

Re: ..:My Thread For Any Help I need:..

No, that is bullshit, ignore that poster.

The best way is to open up your case, pop out your existing RAM chip and put it in a static proof bag. Take it to the computer store and they can match it.
