97 grand voyager tranny trouble

I have a 19997 grandvoyager with intermittent tranny troubles. About half way on a 100 mile trip my trans started acting up. We stopped a a rest stop for a break and when we started again the trans did not want to shift properly.Once up to speed it seemed fine. Every stop there after it seemed like it started one gear higher than it should. It had almost no power untill it was up to speed them as much power as the 3.0 had normally (not much). We have driven the van since and now the problem appears at one stop then not the next two, and vice versa! It also slams into gear ever once in a while. No check engine light, no real noticable slipping, and no idea what to do. At first I tought bad trans but now I am not sure. Any thoughts would be wonderful
