Heat shield

My heat shield is raddling and making like "pinging" very nasty noises, is it ok to take it off? Or will bad stuff happen?

Re: Heat shield

it is there for a reason so i wouldn't take it off but what you can do is get 4 big hose clamps and connect two together and rap them around the heat shield in the front of it and the rear, tighten down until they are snug....that should help quiet the rattle if not then look into a new heatsheild or something

not exactly, if its the catalytic converter heat shield its there to keep heat in/around the cat so that it works properly...

Re: Heat shield

its the heat shield around the cat, now there is 2 parts to this on my car, the upper part (closer to body of the car) is welded on and is all good to go, now the lower part is seperating from the upper because it has no welds.... would it be ok to just take off the lower cat heat shield part? so that way i still have a shield above the cat inbetween the cat and the body?
thanks for the tips so far

Re: Heat shield

very common problem for any generation integra. The infamous 3000 rpm heat shield rattle. Most people just remove that section of shield to solve the problem. I had to do mine about 3 years ago. Do a search on here and you'll see tons of threads on this subject.

It still wont hurt anything.

The only reason they are on cars is so they wont have lawsuits and wont have to hear bullshit from environment hippies.

Re: Heat shield

I Have Exaust Headers on My Whip And It Dosent Matter If You have a heat shield. Just make sure your fans are working properly. Headers get hot real hot and if you sit in rush hour trafick with your AC on you can burn up your engine real quick. Either way a heat shield is solely manufactured for your saftey so you dont touch the haeaders. And burn the fuck out of your hand. I have done it myself.
