rear end info needed

I have a 1994 S-10 2WD, extended cab pick-up with a 4.3 Vortec CPI engine and automatic trans. I would like to know what rear end I have in this truck and what codes or numbers I need to have to fine this info and where are they located? Thanks for any help.

It is better to pull the inspection plate and get the ratio off of ring gear due to the fact that over the years it may have been changed.

The axel rpo code usually can be found in the glove box or dealer can decode vin no.
MT

SAGINAW BUILT AXLES

Axle identification code for rear axles is stamped on forward surface of right axle tube, 3-5" outboard of carrier (6-8" on 20 and 30 Series trucks). Location of identification code for front axles is
not available from manufacturer.

DANA BUILT AXLES

Identification code is stamped on rear surface of right axle tube. In addition, the 3-digit axle code appears on tape strip attached to outboard end of axle tube.

NOTE: Drive axles are balanced with pinion flange (acts as a harmonic member to reduce driveline vibration). If ring and pinion gear set, pinion flange assembly or pinion bearings need replacement, replace entire axle assembly using appropriate system-balanced service axle assembly.
