engine code

My friend has a ford taurus and needs to know the engine code for it. He has a 1998 se..the engine is a 3.0 v6.

Look at the 8th digit from the left on the VIN number. That will be the engine code.

It is either a U or a 2. U is for gasoline engines and 2 is for flex-fuel.

it can also be an S, S is duratec
