98 Caravan died, completely

My 98 Grand Caravan started with a weird sound. I did not know what it was, so I turned off the car. To my surprise, it kept on turning (the starter), like it was stuck on ON. I could not stop the van without damaging the starter. After trying to get it unstuck, the car died. Dead completely, no power at all not even the lights. Checked all the fuses, and everything ok.
Not sure where to start.

Here's where to start, replace your starter with a rebuilt or new one.
Get your battery recharged, it is drained from the starter being stuck, or buy a new battery at Wal-Mart and install it.
You should be done.

Re: 98 Caravan died, completely

if the starter relay stuck in the on position, I think that would be your problem. The starter relay sends power to the starter, so either the starter relay is sticking or the solenoid on the side of the starter.

Re: 98 Caravan died, completely

I am not too sure.
I removed the starter and charged up the battery.
I checked the starter after removing it with a battery charger and it appears to work. I still have no power at all. I checked the fuses.
I checked a few relays by swapping them. Still no power, no lights, nothing.
Is there other fuses I should check? I checked the the box under the hood and under the drivers side.?

Re: 98 Caravan died, completely

Forget What I said about the fuses.
It appears the battery was completely DEAD.
Because I have power now, 30 minutes later after charging.

I am still not sure about the starter, I will test the relay, if its ok, I will get a new starter.

thanks,

Follow up:

relay appeared to be ok, did not stick.
Put in new starter,
after many starts, it appears to be ok.
Thanks everyone for their help.
