Question The Famous Honda Rust

I just picked up a 94 GSR with the famous rust on the front and rear corners of the back wheel well. My 93 Del Sol had the same problem and we got it "fixed" for cheap but a year later it's back. My question is whether anyone has tried to truly resolve this issue through a comprehensive repair?

I'm trying to decide if it makes more sense to try cutting just the rust out or if it's more economical to buy new body panels. I found them online for $100/fender. I'm curious to hear stories of any successful repairs aside from just replacing panels.

Smile Re: The Famous Honda Rust

I'm going through the smae thing. The best cure I've found is to simply cut out the rust and putty over it if it's smaller than half your fist, however, if it's bigger than that or is on a compromising area (such as a fender corner or contour fold) I would just scrap out the piece and get a new one. It shouldn't cost to much more to have them paint it for you and you may just get a new paint job anyway. Hope that works for ya... Cheers!.

Re: The Famous Honda Rust

Replacing is best but I've had good success cutting the rust out and
pop-riveting a patch panel in. I like to fiberglass the back side, that really
waterproofs it and makes it last. I'll use Dynaglass filler on the front side,
it says it's waterproof (that's debateable) but it does hold up much better
than regular bondo. Also Epoxy primer is best.
