Mechanic didn't know
I have a 98 monte carlo and am currently having erratic problems. It seems like once a week or 2 my car is almost undrivable. It will cut out really hard once I accelerate. It will feel like its running out of gas but it seems to cut out even harsher than that. I had a few mechanics drive it while it was acting up but they were puzzled. No codes coming on a diagnostics. They believe its an electric problem but don't really know any input would be great thanks in advance

Re: Mechanic didn't know
The vehicle needs to be driven with a fuel gauge and a scan tool and watch what the fuel pressure does when this happens and also need to watch data on a scan tool. Watch for a sensor sending skewed info back to the pcm or dropping out. Not always will a sensor set a dtc.

Re: Mechanic didn't know
Does the tach needle drop to zero and the abs/trac off lights come on when it does this? If so, its a classic sign of a screwy crank position sensor.

Re: Mechanic didn't know
It would be helpful to post your engine size, 3.1 or 3800 and the mileage.
