Changed motor wont start now

My father has a 2001 sportage. We changed the motor and now it wont start or turn over. He does not have the original key. From what i understand so far is the key has the chip in it and the computer has to be reprogramed. I have checked everything possible. The starter wont engage and there is no voltage to the coils. Can anyone give me some info on this problem? Or is there an easy solution to the key situation? Any info will be greatly appreciated.

Re: Changed motor wont start now

What comes to mind immediately is:
- does the car have an immobilizer (anti-start) and are you sure it is properly addressed ..or can you bypass it
- would you check again if some plug or connection has been forgotten somewhere.
As I understand, it does not even crank on the starter.....so that restricts initial trouble shooting to very simple things.
If it had cranked on the starter but would not fire up, options would explode....
I do not know if you have this...may be it would help:

Thumbs down Re: Changed motor wont start now

I have an '06 Sportage I drove off the showroom floor right before Christmas. In January, after 2800 miles, the engine needed to be replaced. On Father's Day, after just over 10K miles on the second engine, it too has to be replaced.

I wanted to know if anyone else out there is having problems with the engines in the new Sportage.

Overall, I'm very pleased with the vehicle but since I'm investing good money in a new car I'd expect a better return on it.

Any comments (or sympathy) appreciated.

Regards,

EG

Re: Changed motor wont start now

I have 95 sportage, 4WD, SOHC. I have had the engine replaced. The mechanic has had it for 4 months now. He can't figure out what is wrong with it. He finally got it to start but it sounds awful. He took it somewhere locally and had the codes read. It showed a 3. On the Kia site it says this is Distributor G Signal. What does this mean? Does anyone have any suggestions?

Fuel, spark, timing: it is one of the three, period.

The G signal is generated by the crankshaft position sensor that may be located in the distributor or on the engine.
