Trans/Motor Mount

It appears that my transmission/motor mount on the driver side front is gone. I noticed a loud "clicking" sound the other day upon accelerating/turning and I first thought it was a suspension issue but after troubleshooting in the driveway I'm fairly certain it is the mount. Upon acceleration the engine rocks and you can actually see part of the mount moving 1-2 inches each time the accelerator is pushed. Also, it looks like the rubber part of the mount is badly torn. Is this an easy fix? Any suggestions on this? Also, does anyone know what the part in question is called if I were to go to the part store and purchase it?

Thank You!

Re: Trans/Motor Mount

This mount is probably the easiest of the four tranny mounts to replace. Three bolts to tranny and two bolts to frame. I believe I jacked up the engine/tranny slightly when I changed it out on my 93. It's the left front tranny mount. Even better, if possible, bring the old one with you to the parts store.

Re: Trans/Motor Mount

Thanks for the reply! Is there a certain spot to place the jack so I don't damage the tranny or engine?

Re: Trans/Motor Mount

I do not know the official jack point. But if you place the jack near the mount point on the underside of the transaxle case and pad it with a small block of wood to help distribute the pressure, I think you should be OK. Perhaps others may have a better answer.

Re: Trans/Motor Mount

Generally anywhere on the fram is OK...just not on the floorpans

Your engine to tranny mount bolts may have broken loose. If that is the case, then you may have to figure out a way to either drill out the old bolts, or somehow glue or weld a lever of some kind to them.
