thinking about buying a GSX

okay im new to the eclipse scene and i was just trying to figure a few things out. Well ive ben reading through this forum for a while now on the gsx's and i noticed some people talkign about the 6 bolt and 7 bolt's and it seems the 6 bolt is better but what i wanna kno is what years the 6 bolt comes in and if i get a gsx i wanna get somthing around 97ish cuz i like that body style better but if those dont come with the 6bolt should buy a 6bolt motor and then a rolling chassis of the body style i want then drop it in or should i just stick with the motor it comes with?? any comments would be appriciated thanks.

Re: thinking about buying a GSX

okay well here is the deal, i found where it was talking about the 6 and 7 bolt motors but its kind of confusing. It says that from 89-92 it was 6bolt and later 92-94 it was 7bolt but what about 2nd gen's from 95-99 how do i tell which have 6 or 7bolt because thats the body style that i want. (sorry i dont kno much about eclipes yet)

Those are 7 bolt. Here's how to tell (When you see the car) what kinda engine is in it

Re: thinking about buying a GSX

6 bolts only came in 1990, 1991, and most 1992 DSM's. After that, its all 7 bolts unless the previous owner did a swap. I would buy yourself a complete car with the body style you like, do the normal stuff (exhaust, MBC, etc) and see how its going. I would only recommend dropping in a 6 bolt if the stock 7 bolt CW's or if your goals require a ACT 2600 or more. The 7 bolt should suffice otherwise.

True in a lot of cases, but I would still disagree. Mine has had ZERO problems while my bro's turbo Integra is sitting at a shop right now with a bill for SEVEN THOUSAND DOLLARS!!!. Almost everything but the block (actually that too) was messed up from the turbo and poor tuning. The thing's making around 270 whp. So many DSMs are making that without the shitload of problems, and required so much less $ to even get there in the first place (do you know how much even sleeving the block is?).
