Accelerating problems.

I have had my '01 4x4 for about one year now. Since I first got it I have always had a small intermitant problem. At highway speeds, around 60-65, when I go to accelerate there seems to be a gap like sputter in the accel. Kind of feels like a slip or a slight surge in speed. It is very quick and it is not very strong so it is hard to feel if it is a surge or a slip. However today I was entering an onramp and when to gun it to get in a spot in line and my truck just reved up and did not accel. I let of the gas thinking i just pushed in too much and tried again slower and again it just reved up. Kind of scary since it was rush hour and hevy traffic. I had similar slip/surge problem at 40 mph and my truck also quitely died going about 15 mph in a parking lot. I was in a curve and when I went to push the accelerator I had absolutely nothing. When I went to restart it turned over just fine so that eliminated the battery. It sputtered a bit after a couple of tries, seeming to be a problem with the fuel. I managed to start it and when to move out of traffic but the accel seemed to want to kill the motor when I pushed the peddel. I was eventually able to get the track to move like normal and park it. I put it in park and tried reving up the engine and had no problems. I drove across the lot a couple of times and had no problem and decided to head back home before I was stranded out of town. I am kind of at a loss to what my problem could be. Does anyone have any suggestions? Is this a MAP sensor problem? I have researched the slip/surge problem a bit and seemed to be similar to a map sensor issue. I wasn't sure if what I had happen today could be the same problem just worse? Is a map easy to replace?

Re: Accelerating problems.

Had the same problem with my 97 Sierra...Relaced about a $7.00 fuel filter located on the inside of the chassis on the drivers side....Fuel pressure wasn't holding... it has to maintain same pressure at all times....especially when you're passing some, kickdown to pass.... and you're hung out to dry...
