75' Super FI. Problems?

Hey all, I own a 1975 Super Beetle which is another project car beside my 73' Standard. It is Fuel Injected, and when I try to start it, it will start for a minute. then die. We have gotten new gas for it, replaced the battery, etc.

So any ideas on what it is?

Hi:

I used to own and drive a 1975 beetle with FI. It ran well for about 75000 miles and then started acting up electrically which included the FI system.

The car would start and run erratically. I did a complete tune-up including new points, plugs, wires, cap and rotor. I tested fuel flow and pressure. The car continued to be a nightmare, especially on busy highways. As luck would have it my car stalled and coasted into a service station. The mechanic was a factory trained VW technician and checked the car out. He replaced the temperature sender in the right cylinder head. The stalling troubles were over for many miles. Please note that the sensor is in the left cylinder head and controls fuel flow to the engine relative to engine temperature.

I hope this helps. After one hundred thousand miles I did a major conversion by removing the 75 engine and replacing it with a older 1600 carbureted engine complete with a mechanical fuel pump. This fix was excellent and I drove the car for many miles including many severe weather situations.

make sure the air hose from the air cleaner to the throttle plate doesnt have a hole or rip in it. take it off and flex it in all directions - sometimes it's had to see a rip in it.
