Jerking Transmission 3.0 92'
I have a Taurus that had a BAD violently jerking transmission..
My trannie ran sometimes ok. for maybe 5 or more miles. (intermittent) After AAMCO told me a new Trannie was needed. I figured intermittent was the key to it NOT being the trannie. I found that the VSS is controlling the computer to shift tranny and cruise control. The solution was proubbly a bad VSS.OR Bad battery connections. My terminals were corroded. Bad battery to RELAY box (firewall driverside red cable). My nut was loose to relay box. Dirty or connection to VSS on VSS sensor. 2 pins dark green /orange yellow. My connection pins were black and not shiney. Hard to reach just under exhaust manafold. Dirty VCC ground. My VCC connection ground (green screw with 2 orange/yellow 1 black wire) on wheel well justback from beside the battery.. Cleaned but looked ok. Worst connection was at the relay box large red connection nut was movable by hand but almost snug, but I cleaned them all first and the problem has gone away. For now. (50miles) never made it 5 before. GOOD LUCK |

Re: Jerking Transmission 3.0 92'
I know it was trying to downshift.. downshift from any speed.. seemed to try to downshift to lowest gear from any upper gear.. it was kindof scarey actually and would suprise me randomly.
This is a old post but have driven it 3000 miles and it all started again.. Wonder whats up now.. Thanks forum

If you're going to need trans work, find a locally owned reliable trans shop.

Re: Jerking Transmission 3.0 92'
"had the tranny worked over last year... for 1500... they said they would do it agin for 700." Hmmm. . . I'm wondering what they did the first time that only lasted a year? If the fluid was never changed then the filter could have become clogged with sludge and the fluid pressure dropping and rising could make it jerk, but that can be cured with a $60. fluid change and new filter.
Did you actually see the tranny out of the car and did they rebuild it or what? For $1500. bucks they could have rebuilt it and that should last a long time, certainly wwaayy younder more than a year. What does it say on your original receipt, exactly what parts did they replace and what did they do? Give us a rundown and we can go from there. If the engine has had normal maintenance and hasn't suffered abuse and neglect it should easy run 200K miles and no way you can get another car for $700. so I'd seriously consider getting the tranny fixed. Take your original receipt to another tranny shop and let them check it out and see what they think. You spend $1500. to fix it and it lasts a year and messes up agian, . . . I'm thinking they put the screws to you. If the reciept shows a rebuild call the AAMCO district office and talk with the district supervisor and ask him about it. Surely a rebuild carries a one year warranty if not more. "had the tranny worked over last year... for 1500..." What does "worked over" mean? Was it rebuilt? Fact of the matter is; You spent $1500. and the repair only lasted a year? If I were you I'd be tap dancing on their desk demanding an explaination. Maybe they messed up on the rebuild and are willing to do it again for half price. What explaination did they offer you? I'd make a sincere effort to resolve it at the local level then go to the district office for help. |

Re: Jerking Transmission 3.0 92'
Do you feel that cleaning all those electrical connectors solved your problem? I have a 01 SES that's acting quite similar to the symtoms you describe. Please any info you can impart.
