Cost of my intake job

Here is the breakdown of my intake job this week. Included also is the cost of some maintenance items I decided to do while I was at it. Some were not absolutely necessary but things I felt needed to be done to prevent trouble later. I spent close to 18-20 hours total all week but took my time and did a thorough cleaning of the lower intake, throttle body, head, and other items.

Intake job:
Upper intake kit________$120.00
Lower gaskets___________39.57
therm. gasket____________1.00
EGR gasket_______________3.51
Fuel inj. O-rings___________5.74
coolant elbow_____________6.72
coolant___________________9.60
Loctite____________________3.99
oi change_________________14.00
shipping__________________15.00
Total___________________$219.13

Non-intake related parts I decided to replace while doing job:

Radiator service____________$65.00
New radiator hoses__________26.71
radiator cap_________________5.22
spark plugs_________________31.20
spark plug wires_____________25.10
valve cover gaskets__________11.93
air filter_____________________7.98
2 heat exch. O-rings__________17.81
coolant temp. sensor__________13.87
carb & inj. cleaner_____________10.00
thermostat____________________4.37
Gatorback belt________________26.74
spark plug flex socket___________5.29
____________________________
Total $251.22

Labor _____________________$0
Total Job $470.35

Daughter spending 4 hours getting greasy and helping complete the job: PRICELESS!

Re: Cost of my intake job

He sure did. But with 308K miles I would have rebuilt the engine.

BTW - Don't forget to have Rich make good on the improper fuel injector o-ring seals and send you the proper replacements. They may come in handy one day.

Good job!

Re: Cost of my intake job

I'm know I'm not ready for an engine rebuild even though you guys have made me feel like I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night and that I just saved a ton of money by switching to Geico. It certainly was my lucky day when I found this website. I wouldn't have dared tackled this job without everyone's help here. It's good to know there's someone who's "been there, done that" and is more than willing to help.

Any time Wally. We're here because at one time, we were where you are, and needed help as well and may or may not have been able to find it. It's a good feeling to help someone out. When you're ready to tackle that Buick, we'll be here for you as well.

I checked the oil in the Buick. I see no signs of abnormality even though it could exist. The oil on the dipstick and under the cap on the valve cover look normal. It may be minute at this time but I will do another oil analysis at the next change. Better to catch it early than too late.
What is the deal with the 3.1's?
