Question Clear Taillights for Z34

hey,
i dont know if i saw this here or on cardomain.com, but i remember awhile back someone posted something on how to make clear taillights for a Lumina Z34. I was wonderin if i could see that again, or if someone would tell me how to do it. OOO, and i saw one of ya'll had a digital gauge cluster, wonderin how much that cost ya, where ya got it, and will it fit a Z34 with a 5-speed.

Re: Clear Taillights for Z34

Sorry, can't help you with the clear tail lights. But I have a digital dash. It cost me a trip to the junkyard, about $50.00 and about three weeks time. The digital dash actually is from a cutlass supreme.

It is not a one to one swap. The cutty dash is made completely different than ours. You basically have to take the innerds from the cutty dash pod and make them fit the lumi dash pod. I bought the cutty and an extra lumi dash, in case I wanted to switch back one day. You have to cut some of the lumi dash to make the digitals fit correctly, then you have to tint the lumi dash face to hide all the electronics. Then you have to re-pin the wiring harness, since the pin-outs for cutty are different then a lumi.

The harnesses also connect in a different location on each dash, you have to extend the lumi wiring. To solve that I mated the wiring harness from the cutty to the lumi connector during repinning.

Sure, it'll work on a 5-speed. I got the idea from another forum I am a member of.

Re: Clear Taillights for Z34

The altezza style tail lights look like ass on any lumina ever created. My advice: just don't do it. If you absolutely must make your car look like ass/a ricer by doing this, it's actually quite simple. Get a deremel and cut out the red sections of the lights. They will appear white/clear becasue what you are actually seeing is the diffuser behind the lens. It's ghetto, and IMO it's really crappy looking. but if that's what you want to do, there ya go.

And as for this digital dash thing you were talking about. Are you talking about the gauge cluster, a DIS or a DIC?

Re: Clear Taillights for Z34

They sell blackout paint for tail lights at almost any automotive store. It's only a few bucks IIRC. Just ask the guy at the counter and he'll point you in the right direction.
