Re: exhaust help

red tEh FAQ sticky thread.

as far as catylitic converter or not: is your county an emissions county? if so, then stick with the cat. if not, then you can go with a testpipe, as they're pretty cheap, but keep in mind, you'll be polluting like crazy w/o the cat, just for about 5hp and a little gain on the top end.

Re: exhaust help

or you could just get it emissions tested and then put on your exhaust mods.

i personally wouldnt feel bad about polluting a bit more considering the total extra pollution from car modifications is probly about .001% of the total pollution goiong into the sky. i might feel bad about putting a race pipe on an excursion cuz thats as bad for the environment as clubbing baby seals :P gutting the cat might be a good alternative as well

Re: exhaust help

^Here's the problem, if you guys tell everyone to gut their cat, yea the air's gonna' get fucked up becuase everyone either guts their cat or race pipes it, rather than paying the extra 100 bucks to get a high flow cat with a lifetime warranty. One person doesn't make that much of a difference, but every time someone asks this question and you guys tell him to gut his cat, than you can chalk up another polluting car to the huge list already.

So go ahead and do what you want to do, but this environment doesn't need another gutted catalytic convertor so in my opinoin you should spend the money on a high flow cat, which will do the trick, and you won't have to worry about swapping shit for emissions, or getting caught with a gutted cat/no cat (you can get in very big trouble for this).

Re: exhaust help

Are you NA 92 Dodge stealth?

If so this is what I would have done to my exhaust if I was to to is all over again:

3sx long headers (this includes the DP if you are a newbie)
2.5" exhaust from the DP back (to reduce shock losses from pipe diameter changes)
High flow cat
Magnaflow exhaust (mainly because it's widely available an therefore cheap for what you get)

As for the Catalistic coverter argument... I would follow the "do to others ad you would have others do to you"... Nothing i hate more then sitting in traffic sucking on some idiots poorly tuned smelly exhaust getting nausious and dizzy from the fumes... I don't do that to you, please don't do that to me!

Re: exhaust help

^exactly, and even my high flow cat smells like sulfur after I've been under boost for 5+ seconds. BTW he has an RT/TT so I say get the DP and the high flow cat first...

Your 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 is the 92nd out of the 315 that were made that year. Only 21 of which are exactly identical.
