what I need....
What I'd like to be able to buy would be a very simple, cheap, reliable car.
Most of my car driving is back and forth to work, and stuff like grocery getting. My '90 Lada was such a car. No A/C, because the vents worked well, and the glass area was small. The heater was sauna-grade. No power steering because it was light weight, and rear wheel drive. No power windows, as it was narrow enough to open the passenger side anyway. No electric locks (see above). The engine was simple to work on. You could change the oil without lifting the car. The suspension was simple, and robust, you could change the shocks without a spring compressor. And 10" brakes, front and rear where a bonus. I'd sure like to find a new car built so well and simply. It cost me $8200.00, new, all taxes included, and I drove it for 10 years. And parts were cheap. The last brake pads I bought, the taxes put them to just over $35.00 |

What we need is an econobox designed so people can work on it, not just designed to be cheap to build in third-world factories.
