problem....

1. run out of gas, then filled with $ 10 of gas
2. car did not restart
3. no fuel pressure on fuel rail, only a few drops on test valve comes out
4. fuses assoc with fuel pump appear ok, fuel pump relay can be heard engaging.
5. replaced fuel pump and fuel filter.
6. fuel pressure at test valve on fuel rail now strong, and you seem to hear fuel flow are the rails when ignition is switched on.
7. car seems to try to start but just very brief, but doesn't start. It seems to fire / kick but not enough to start.

Obviously something we have missed or there is a secondary item to repair. Any ideas ??? May have to have a repair facility check it.

You might hav fouled out plugs, pull 1-2 and see if they are wet. Check for good spark too.

also try holding the throtle about 1/2-3/4 the way down when youre trying to start it.

When you had the fuel tank out of the car to change the pump, did you change the sock? When gas tanks are ran empty, the fuel pump will usually suck anything off of the bottom of the tank. (rocks, dirt...etc.)

Also, have you checked the actual pressure at the fuel rail? It may seem like it has good strong pressure, but it takes a good deal of pressure to fire the injectors. I would get a pressure gauge and check the pressure.

It came back to life 24 hours later, tried it last night and it started immediately.

A new sock on the fuel pump actually came with the new fuel pump, and the fuel filter was also changed.

I didn't check the actual pressure on the rails (didn't have a guage) but it was what appeared to be good pressure on the test valve as compared to no pressure before the pump was changed.

Guess it just needed some time to bleed itself of air pockets, etc., after the intitial startup. But nothing we tried worked the night the pump was changed. The plugs could have also got a soaking during the initial startup that needed time to clear itself.

Anyway happy all is back to normal.
