1998 Concorde - How do you disable the airbag?

Title pretty much says it all. My wife is pregnant and I want to disable the passenger airbag on my 98 Chrysler Concorde.

Thanks in advance for any help on this, as I am not an "auto"-inclined person.

Re: 1998 Concorde - How do you disable the airbag?

I do not know the risks of airbag deployment for pregnant women, most if not all the information on airbag injuries were for shorter/smaller people, children, dwarf's, elderly etc. I can only surmise you have looked into this already and found enough information to warrant your concerns.

As far as I know there is no way to disable the passenger's side air bag without doing the same to the driver's airbag possibly something else, the only way I think to do that would be to pull the fuse for both the system. I'm not sure if that fuse is also connected to something else ie the door locks but I WOULD not recommend pulling the fuse and disabling BOTH airbags.

For the time being you could have her sit in the rear seat if that is an option, OR for a real solution, check with the dealer or auto/electronic shops to see if they can install a passenger's airbag disabling switch for you. There are some laws that may or may not cover this, I know it can be done I do not know in what situations a dealer/shop will do it as I believe the laws make it illegal to tamper with airbags in general, some situations allow this to be circumvented, 2 seater vehicles, medical conditions, etc.

If you were so inclined you might try doing this yourself but it will require at the least taking apart some of the center console/dash to get at the passenger's air bag etc. If you don't know what your doing you don't want to risk messing something up and damaging/destroying the airbag system or having it end up not working at all if you do something wrong if your not technically inclined.
