Question Google didn't help!

I know i should google everything before asking, so i did... and i could not find the answers. I've been getting very interested in the "mini-me" swap. The route i have been thinking about going is ... SI bottom end, & D16y8 head. From what i have searched, it's best to use the SI tranny, instead of the HF tranny, right? ... I dont know what kind of power i should be expecting considering im using a different bottem end from the top, so could you tell me what crank horsepower and whp i'll be looking at? ... I dont want to do the little mini-me swap and not really gain much hp, so to give me an idea, could i beat a 96-00 civic si? and also, what are the recorded times on the 1/8 for this exact swap? From searching and whatnot, I have gather'd that these are the things i will need for this swap...

SI Bottom End
D16y8 Head (cant remember if vtec is the y7 or y8?)
SI Tranny
Y8 intake manifold ?
Y8 Throttle Body
Vtec ECU
Which Harness will fit this? - HF,Y8,SI?

If anything is wrong please, please correct and straighten me out... Thanks

Re: Google didn't help!

The SI trans is DEFINATELY better than the HF, unless your looking for fuel economy that long gearedbastard is horrible.

Re: Google didn't help!

personaly i dont see why you wouldent just put the whole y8 motor in. less complication and some decent power. but if you already have the si motor i would do the same probly and just do the mini-me swap. last time i was interested in it and found i good site on it it said you will need to replace the timing belt with the y8 belt for teeth reasons. just what i read. and you have to remember to remove the oil pressure thingy on the top of the block

Re: Google didn't help!

I already have the SI motor very avaliable at a great price. I figured, just buy a head and all would be good. And if i can get the same horsepower out of just putting the head on there instead of buying the whole motor, it would honestly be pointless. Do you know about what my times will be, or if could even beat a 97 or so civic si?? thanks for the replies

there's no such thing as a 96-98 civic si. They didn't start making them again until 99.
just swap in a whole d16y8 motor. Definitely use the y8 intake manifold, but use a bseries (LS or B16) throttle body...they are bigger. Use your stock harness...nothing else will work. HF and Si harnesses are exactly the same harness. And obd1 harness won't plug in. You always use your stock harness no matter what motor you put in. You will just have to add 1 wire for vtec. You don't HAVE to use a vtec ecu...but you can either use a vafc for vtec, use a pr3 or pw0 ecu, or use the stock si one and chip it for vtec.
Whatever you decide, let me know, I can get you the best prices on anything.

Re: Google didn't help!

i dont think you should be asking these questions. sorry but you should have asked if anyone has this setup or knows alot about it and asked that person from then on. but from what i have read you will have around 120hp give or take. it really depends. just use the power to weight ratiio from there on. take both cars weights and hp numbers and compare to see. it should be simple.

Re: Google didn't help!

I shouldn't be asking these questions? lol, What are you guys here for? ... I'm definatly about to ask questions considering that im about to put money into something. For example, do you read something before you are asked to sign it?.. anyways ... the civic si im talking about is the one that looks like a 97 civic ex . I was just pretty much wondering if i would be able to beat one of those, cuz if not, i aint gonna do that setup. thanks

Re: Google didn't help!

Honestly, after dealing with a mini me, I think you'd be better off to just get Delta 272 Regrind. The mini me is a pain in the ass... It nets a decent gain, But is just a PITA.

If you are really set on it go Obd-1 with a p-28 ecu, the MSD set up is horrible. Just my two cents.
