2000 Neon and 3 spd automatic
Someone I know bought a used 2000 base Neon LE about a yr ago. It had 18,000 miles on it. It has a 3 speed automatic transmission, and the problem is that the transmission is very rough. It doesn't shift smoothly but kind of jerks. This happens when shifting from 1st to 2nd, and happens regardless if accelerating hard or accelerating slowly. I would like to hear from anyone else who owns a 2000 Neon with the 3 spd automatic, does yours shift smoothly or not? I'm trying to figure out whether this problem is only with this particular Neon, or whether all 3 spd Neons are like that.
Also, I know that 2000 was the last yr for the 3 spd transmission. Would it be possible to install the 4 spd automatic from the 2001 or newer Neons, and how expensive would this be? Also, what kind of a difference in performance would this make?
