Dell AC Adaptor

Okay, I'm trying to find a Dell PA-1650-05D adaptor for the ex's old Inspiron 1150.

However, I can only find new ones that are too expensive, but I've found heaps of alternates that are cheaper, but I need to know which adaptors will work with that laptop or are equivalent to that adaptor.

Re: Dell AC Adaptor

Just goto the computer store and buy a multi adapter? I have a Targus branded one that works great.

Alternately, look what voltage, amplitude and plug you need and goto your local electronics store.

Re: Dell AC Adaptor

Looks like it is compatible with the 8500 and 8600 series adapters. The one listed on dell is $50 and says its compatible with 1150:

I've got a dell laptop and have never been very impressed with their adapters. I've had to buy a new one every 6 - 12 months. The last time that I needed one I bought a Targus. It seems to be a lot higher quality, but I've only had it a few months so I can't really comment on their longevity.

Re: Dell AC Adaptor

The charger is fine in this case - the problem is the wire's been twisted and frayed so it ended up short circuiting.

All good, found one on trademe

Re: Dell AC Adaptor

That was the problem that I had. The adapter would be fine, but the cord would get messed up and short out. Every one of them messed up where the connector enters the back of the computer. I wiggled one of the them around some much to make it work that I broke the jack loose and had to have the mobo replaced.

Re: Dell AC Adaptor

Nah this was just in a couple of random spots along the cord. The missus (well, ex now) wasn't exactly gentle with it
