wheel measurements. HELP!!

hi all,

i know that this question has probably been asked millions of times, but will someone please explain to me how to determine if aftermarket wheels will fit.
what is backspacing?
how to measure bolt circle?
what is offset, positive/negative?
what is the center bore?
hub concentric??? what?

it would be awesome if someone could find a labeled diagram or something

i really just want to understand this whole thing so i can get some new wheels.

just so ya'll know i have an 84 caprice classic, and was looking at American Racing AR-23 wheels.
any other suggestions are welcome!!!
