Hayabusa X-1 In Progress - First Moto Kit
Hi guys,
This is my first post on these forums. I thought I'd start an in progress of my first Moto kit after hanging around other areas of the hobby for a while. So here is my progress on my Tamiya Hayabusa X-1 with Lion Roar PE Set. ![]() ![]() Engine and frame painted predominately with Alclads, with the start of some wiring I'm adding ![]() ![]() Rear swing arm ![]() ![]() Exhaust with base coat of Alclad Pale Burnt Metal and spring retainer clips added ![]() Lion Roar PE brake discs assembled and primed with Alclad Gloss Black ![]() ![]() I'm creating the front fender with carbon fibre as per the reference pic on the box art. Decided to create the CF by painting it on using the ladies stocking technique I had read about. Quite happy with how it's turned out. Any comments welcomed and appreciated. Adam. |

Re: Hayabusa X-1 In Progress - First Moto Kit
Made some progress today and finished up the Exhaust with heat staining and adding the springs.
![]() First I taped up the weld lines so they wouldn't receive the heat staining ![]() Here are the springs I made to add to the pipes once stained. Springs were just made by wrapping thin fuse wire around a drill piece ![]() Then using tamiya smoke I added the first layer of staining concerntrating primarily on the tops of the pipes where they enter the engine block. Reference pics show that most of the heat staining on the `busa occurs mainly near the top of the pipes with only minor staining occuring along the length. ![]() Second layer of staining is tamiya clear blue, again mainly along top of pipes. ![]() ![]() Couple of pics of finished Exhaust. Added a bit more staining along the length of the top of the pipes, removed the tape and added the springs (boy was that fun wrapping the ends of the springs around the retaining clips ![]() Quick example of what they will look like attached to bike Well, that's it for this weekend. Probably won't have much more progress until next weekend due to work and family commitments through the week. Adam. |

Looks good so far. Welcome the AF. Looks like you know your stuff. Could you elaborate on the CF technique. What colours did you use, I really like your results.

) and stretched it over the part (in this case the front fender), making sure that the stocking is completely stretched. Then through the stocking I sprayed a light coat of Alclad II Dark Aluminium, in effect using the stocking as a mesh template, with the result being the photo's above. For certain applications I think it gives a really nice effect. Of course, I'm yet to try it on a complex part which will require some creative stretching of the stocking .Adam. |

Re: Hayabusa X-1 In Progress - First Moto Kit
Outstanding work - I'd love to see what else you have done/are doing.
I have this kit in my stash and it will be the first bike I do (someday) so I will be following and referencing your build here. Don't be shy, make your progress steps as detailed as I you like, I'll be lapping it up

man that looks great!
what color can be substituted for the Dark Aluminium when making the carbon? (preferably tamiya's acrylics)
