Alarm going off
Since last sunday, the alarm on my car started going off too often without any reason.
First time it happened sunday evening when my car was parked with flashing lights on and i was away. Then on monday, it happened twice in couple of hours at work. I parked at the same spot where I normally do. Finally i left the car unlocked all day long. Then it went off today at bank twice in 15 minutes. Again I left it unlocked. Can someone come up with any reason/reasons for that. I am worried about the alarm going off at places where I cant leave it unlocked. |

Re: Alarm going off
Check to see if you have a theft deterrent shock sensor. Open the side access cover at the driver's side of the dashboard. It is the same location of the DRL module. It will look like a relay and has an adjustment knob on it where you can adjust sensitivity. Counterclockwise decreases alarm sensitivity and clockwise increases. The adjustment should be made in 30 degree increments.
Also, there is a way to program the shock sensor control modes. Pull fuse 27 at the cabin fuse box, ignition switch at accessory and by turning parking lights on and off. There are four modes in a GTP with a Level 4 BCM module. The seat belt light will flash and the chime will sound as you sequence the parking lights to the next mode. There is similar procedure to disable or arm the theft deterrent system but I can't remember that off the top of my head.

Re: Alarm going off
Had the same problem in a 2000 GT. By that year the control knob in the driver's dash panel was removed. I found instructions in the owner's manual to do it though. Had to move a fuse in the glove-box fuse-box and then turn the lights on and off a certain # of times. Weird way to program, but it worked. I just set it to be one level less sensitive than the default.

But it is a good idea to be aware and keep a look out for auto thieves.

Re: Alarm going off
I think I fixed the problem by doing what Bnaylor told me to do. When i turned the parking lights on and off, it chimed once. Next time i did it, it chimed twice. Next time thrice and then four times. If i did it again, it chimed once. So i set it where it chimed four times. And the alarm hasnt gone off since last night.
Thanks again for the help |

Re: Alarm going off
Bob,
I think i fixed the problem but this evening it went off twice. No semis near and no wind etc. Do u know how many chimes should i set to for least sensitivity. I have had this car for 3 yrs and never had this problem before. |

In the meantime Mode 1 (1 chime) should give all anti-theft features but reduce sensitivity. It takes sensitivity to high. Mode 2 (2 chimes) will disable shock sensor but maintain door or tailgate activation causing alarm to sound. Mode 3 (3 chimes) totally disarms the system. Mode 4 ( 4 chimes) is full system activation with low alarm sensitivity. <--highest probability you will get false alarms. Good luck!
