motorcyclists

the situation involving Roethlisberger (the QB for the Steelers) and his recent motorcycle wreck has finally pushed me over the tipping point and starts my stress release on how dumb people are who ride motorcycles without helmets.

first off about Big Ben. the idiot is 24, has a promising football career ahead of him, and decides to go ride his motorcycle without a helmet. what the fuck?! he said he doesn't like riding with a helmet on. maybe he should try playing football without a helmet on, he could probably see more of the field then. it only takes one wreck and your life is over. he has an obligation to the league, his team, his coaches, his players and the fans. he should not be so fuckin dumb.

this brings me to my second rant, and i think it irks me more than Ben's incident. Where i live, in New Mexico, many people ride more motorcycles. that's fine, some don't ride with helmets, which, as i'm sure you already know, is stupid but it's their life not mine that is being gambled. what really pisses me off is when you see someone riding a motorcycle, usually a crotch rocket, with a helmet hanging off the SIDE of the backseat. why the fuck don't you just put the helmet on stupid!? cause it might mess up your hair? i'm sure your hair will look lovely when you break open you skull. have some fucking sense and wear some protection (no matter what situation it is). there's a reason for helmets and it isn't to look cool. there's a reason that race car drivers wear seat belts and that the cyclistsin the tour de france wear helmets. the same reason i wear a bike helmet when i go mountain biking. one fall can end it all.

i'm not saying that a helmet will save your life when you get in a motorcycle wreck but it may help.

that's my rant. it's over.

Re: motorcyclists

exactly. some people say they're careful and don't need a helmet blah blah blah. well i wouldn't be had my dad been a dumbass and thought like that. he always wore his helmet and good thing he did, one day he was driving on his bike and some idiot blew a stop sign and ran him over. helmet saved his life. so for all you guys who don't wear one, don't be a dumbass.

Re: motorcyclists

it's just like wearing a condom. this may be a stupid analogy but i think it's a good one. on of my friends says he doesn't like wearing one because he doesn't like the feeling. just like some people don't like the way a helmet feels. i'm sure they will say that once they have grey matter all over the pavement or a nice case of the Herp

Re: motorcyclists

Okay I admit, what the guy did is stupid (riding a bike without a helmet), but to be honest, whats more stupid is that the state he lives in does not have a law saying you have to wear a helmet. That is the most stupidest thing I've heard.

Couldn't resist the irony...

But I agree, riding without proper gear is real dumb. And I also agree, the morons will be weeded out soon enough.

Re: motorcyclists

it it wasn't for helmets and leather's my dad would be dead. a few years ago he came off his motorbike, sliding down the road on his side the tarmac wore through the leathers almost to the skin. his helmet was worn completely donw on one side and his watch (which he still has somewhere) had the face worn off. if it wasn't for that he'd be dead.

recently on his way home from work a car ran a red light and swerved onto the wrong side of the road, hitting my dad, his bike met the front wing of the car, sending him accross the bonnet/hood onto the road the other side, again if he wasn't wearing a helmet he'd be dead.

my friend came off his motorbike at 95, he was sent flying. he spent 16 weeks in hospital recovering from his injuries, despite the leathers, boots, gloves and helmet it was his own stupidity that caused him to come off it. he lost flesh to the road and has over 200 stitches on his legs, with 12 screws and three steel plates holding his left leg together. he was airlifted to hospital because the doctors feared his neck injuries (broken neck) may've been too bad to take him to hospital by road.

at 30mph it takes 3 seconds for your flesh to wear down to the bone. 3 seconds. think about that before you get on a motorbike with no leathers/protective clothing/helmet.

what's even MORE stupid is the fact that PA USED to require riders to wear helmets. then, 35 years later, the state amended the law to make helmets OPTIONAL. what a bunch of fuckin idiots.

and 2.2straightsix, i'm glad both your dad and friend are doin alright. at least they are lookin at the grass from the other side. just more evidence to wear protection.

Re: motorcyclists

In florida, all you gotta wear is glasses. Thats right GLASSES!!! Any regular ol sunglasses are all the protection you need when you fly off your crotch rocket at 75mph.
Once again florida government proves its incompetence.

Re: motorcyclists

^ i don't even think you need glasses. i know a kid who lives down in florida, he says the law is that you don't need to wear a helmet as long as your bike is insured. it's meant to be a rationing device since bike theft is so rampant and insurance companies can't afford to cover all the theft claims. it's still stupid though.

yep, from seeing the accidents that go hand in hand with fast cars and bikes i doubt i'll see much racing on the road in my own car. the thought of being strip searched everytime you go through a metal detector on the way to your flight doesn't appeal to me.

my dad came off quite well from the crash, considering how bad it could've been. he was very badly bruised from the accident and for about a month he was in constant pain. he couldn't get in my mum's car because it's too love to the groud, he couldn't ride his bike for two reasons, one was because he couldn't sit comfortably, and also because it was totally written off in the accident. and he was within Britain's 30mph inner-city speed limit.

my friend was doing 95 on a country lane when a car pulled out in front of him, he hit the brake, got a "tank slapper" and was then thrown from the bike, accross the road and into a field about 50 yards away. it was 6 months before he walked again, he won't go near a motorbike nowadays.

every year there's the Isle of Man TT (time trials) where the roads are used as a race course, the blind turns and crests mean you have to have a good knowledge of the course to even stand a chance of survivng it's entirity. every year spectators try to emulate their favourite riders by doing the course, there are a lot of deaths each year, without fail. outside built-up areas the Isle of Man has no speed limits, you can go as fast as you like, which is why so many get killed there.

moral of the story, wear the protective gear, keep within the limit and don't do anything stupid. you can't account for others' actions but if you make sure you don't do anything stupid you greatly cut the risk of getting hurt.
