Re: New Civic Suspension Noise

I will be short.

The problem is knocking..or.."tak..tak", (as used by others at times), in the RIGHT FRONT. It would appear it is suspension, and it has been heard in my case, by a tech at my dealership. They state no fix at present, and cannot find a cause. I am a USA user, in Florida.

I have already done the obvious, (like removing wheel covers..etc.) And am seeking others with a problem, and a possible fix. More later...

My Regards, John

Re: New Civic Suspension Noise

If the tech can duplicate the noise but can't trace where it's coming from I suggest going to a different dealership. Or request the veh be dispatched to the shop foreman (most experience). Good luck with that.

Re: New Civic Suspension Noise

Thanks...,

I have that as a good idea, to try another dealership......But I also have stopped at a very good front-end and alignment shop...They drove it, and say it is likely the shock portion of that right strut assembly, and suggest getting the dealer to try it, by simple replacement......That will be the trick then, to get them to agree, and I will try this in the next week, I hope...

Regards, John

Re: New Civic Suspension Noise

It's doubtful that Honda is going to just let them throw parts at it without a proper diagnosis. If the dealer that you have been going to is willing to do that then you really should find another shop. It would prove that they don't know what they're doing. I think it's ridiculous that they can hear the noise but can't find the source.

Re: New Civic Suspension Noise

Update on "tak-tak" sound...

Been seen by two ft.end/alignment techs, and they each had a few ideas, inc first, the STRUT. In truth however, I already felt pretty strongly about the strut, and intend to pursue it over the next few months on my own, as I have experience and ability.

Have any experienced tech do it, and it is possible it could get costly, as an item-for-item replacement is the best bet, it would appear.

Other than this issue, I have no problems with the car, which is now up to 3600 miles.

Thanks for kind answers...John (ellll)

Re: New Civic Suspension Noise

Pardon me, but why in the world are you prepared to pay to repair a car that is covered by a full warranty?????

I work at a Honda dealer (Service Advisor) and have encountered all sorts of strange noises to be traced down. We've got about 6 techs out of 17 that can fix any noise...provided we can hear it. Don't give up so easily.

What we've seen recently, mostly with the Ridgeline, is the struts twist in their retainer plates and make a "pop" noise. All we need to do is spin the retainer plate so it properly secures the strut and problem solved. Maybe that's your answer.

We also have a tool that's called the chassis ear. The tech wears headphones and attaches leads to suspected areas of the car. There's a dial on the machine that lets them zone in on the exact area of the noise.

Please don't pay for any repairs that you don't have to. Find a better dealership that won't quit on you.

Re: New Civic Suspension Noise

Hello Friend, and thanks for the encouraging words. You are right. of course...I am just weary of it right now...I WILL ! try again on the front right sus. noise. Is it acceptable to copy your post, and use it on this service tech, or would you prefer I not do that?

I will start again tomorrow, to try to solve this...My Regards,!!!, John (ellll)

Re: New Civic Suspension Noise

I would prefer you didn't, but if you feel it's necessary to get your car fixed then go ahead.

I suggest creating a scenario where both parties win. Arrange an appointment on a day that you can be without the car for the day-this makes it easier for the dealership to properly address your concern. When you are setting up the appointment make note that you have an ongoing issue and request the shop foreman to address your issue-this should ensure that your noise is properly identified and corrected.

Please post back with updates.

Re: New Civic Suspension Noise

Thanks for the kind suggestions, and it is the best plan.

I am at present, since the third, entertaining out of towners..(?!?!), so it will be a few days to a week, and I am going to plan it well with them in advance this time. I will simply mention that I do have additional info, but not give a source...

Will post back when I get a result I can list...

My Regards, John

Re: New Civic Suspension Noise

My Friends,

I Wish to thank many kind answers..re: my 2006 Civic, with rt. front sus. noise on bumps....

They just completed another overnight exam, and again say there is nothing they can do, and they were unable to reproduce the sound...

I state, I am sane and older and mature, and I am NOT prone to extremism, and it IS real and not soft...Several independents have heard it, and told me it is the upper strut mount....

Please///..Anyone tell me the problems with me disassembling and checking the right front strut by myself? I do have much auto and motorcycle ex from the past...(1955 through maybe 1990...)

Any furthur info much appreciated!!!!

My Regards, John (ellll)

Re: New Civic Suspension Noise

it might void the warranty on that specific part if you do it yourself, read the warranty in detail before doing anything to your car. you don't want to lose dealership help because you took the damn thing apart.

Re: New Civic Suspension Noise

Friends,

Indeed, warranty problems noted....but it doesn't seem to be doing me much good at present, ('tho I can imagine if it came apart, I might wish for a lot of help....)

As I recall, certified repairs can be done by anyone if they can show their ability and pay for them as needed, and that would not be a problem, as I would do it under the cover of an associate with a shop, who is certified in several auto fields, and builds flat track rigs...Problem is getting enough time on his rack, when it is free......

But in the end, many do alterations anyway, and hang the guarantee..
thats a bit how I feel now...

Anyone else tell me more??

My Regards,, !!! John (ellll)
