Keyless entry question

I was wondering if anyone knows how to tell if a 96 Rodeo has keyless entry. I bought it used and it has power locks. I've seen that you can buy key fob transmitters on ebay and I want to know if my rig has keyless.

Thanx,

Re: Keyless entry question

Does yours have factory alarm? I think if it had factory alarm and power locks then it also had keyless locks. Pull the glove box and look to the right. See if there are 2 plastic boxes there (colors vary) one would be marked "alarm" (this is actually just relays and warning buzzer) and the other would be marked "keyless entry and anti theft".

I wasnt sure if mine had it or not either, I took the chance and ordered a remote from ebay and turns out it does.

Re: Keyless entry question

I know on my passport you can tell by following this procedure.

1.) Make sure all doors are closed, and unlocked. Open driver's door. Insert key into ignition.
2.) Turn ignition switch to ACC position, then to OFF position 3 times within 5 seconds of step 1.
3.) Close driver's door and open it 2 times within 10 seconds after step 2.
4.) Turn ignition to ACC position, then to OFF position 5 times. Close driver's door, then open it. This must be completed within 10 seconds of step 3. If your doors lock and unlock after this proceedure you have keyless entry.

If it doesn't work the first time try a few times to make sure.

So in other words

OPEN DOOR

KEY ACC
KEY OFF
KEY ACC
KEY OFF
KEY ACC
KEY OFF

CLOSE DOOR
OPEN DOOR
CLOSE DOOR
OPEN DOOR

KEY ACC
KEY OFF
KEY ACC
KEY OFF
KEY ACC
KEY OFF
KEY ACC
KEY OFF
KEY ACC
KEY OFF

CLOSE DOOR
OPEN DOOR

Good luck!

Re: Keyless entry question

Instead of opening and closing the door the thousand times the procedure calls for, you can simply cycle the door slider switch.
