FMIC setups.... help me spend my money!
Ok, so I got some grad money and a couple paychecks, now its time to spend them! I saw these FMIC kits on eBay and thought that would be a good thing to get.
Heres kit A: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/DSM-9...QQcmdZViewItem. Its a 32x12x3 core, all piping/clamps/couplers, and it has a HKS BOV for $300. It doesnt say "HKS Style" so I am a little unsure of what to think. I really dont care though, if its a knock off and doesnt work good I will just jerry rig the stock 1g back on there. Heres kit B: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/90-94...QQcmdZViewItem. Its a 23.6x11.8x3 core, all pipes/couplers/clamps, and a Blits DD BOV for $290. Again, it doesnt say "style" BOV anywhere and it even listed what model BOV it is so I almost want think its real. Right now I am thinking kit B for several reasons. First off, I like when the company actually shows a picture of it instead of some generic photoshopped thing. I kinda like how kit B's core is a little smaller, I am not shooting for a huge turbo so I dont really need a huge core (actually, I think even kit B's core is a bit big, but its cheap, I dont care). Also, kit B is $10 cheaper EDIT: They both have good feedback, but the seller of kit B hasnt had any negatives in over a month. He has had less volume than the seller of kit A, but kit A's guy has gotten 150+ non positive feedback this month. As I found out from my cams, high volume sellers arent always the best way to go. I am pretty sure kit B is on my list now. Opinions? I think I am also going to get a 190, MBC, boost guage, and 3" exhaust here pretty soon depending on what kind of deals I can find. |

I don't think that BOV can be recirculated, real blitz or not.
they are also both really long routes

Re: FMIC setups.... help me spend my money!
Oh it can be recirculated. It might not think it can, but it hasnt met Thor yet.
![]() Damn. Well, I could always toss the 1g BOV back on. I know I'll have to do a little fabbing, but I could do it. Or if could just get rid of the Blitz one and get a Type S or something. Shit, I dont want to go long route. What are the advantages of short route piping? Damn. Well, I guess I am going to just start collecting parts to build my own IC setup. Obviously I will buy the core, but I need to start looking at short route pipes and start ordering bends. Thanks |_elcipse_|. EDIT: Ok, so I just ran across these. NEW KIT A: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2-5-B...QQcmdZViewItem and NEW KIT B: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2-5-I...QQcmdZViewItem. As with last time, I am thinking kit B. They look like the same things, but the kit B has blue couplers and chrome pipes. I know the couplers wont probably be the best quality, I dont care. Do you guys think there is enough of the right kind of bends to fab up a FMIC pipe setup from those? |

Re: FMIC setups.... help me spend my money!
well short route piping isn't the biggest thing in the world, but it's a huge advantage. With less pipe volume, that means there is less volume for the air to fill = quicker spool, and faster air going through the fmic. Check out slowboy's website under their 2g kit (mine) to see what a true short route looks like.
lol I like the attitude about forcing the BOV to reciculate, but some just won't, or will leak if you try. It depends on the spring rates too, my suggestion would be to find a used TypeS, they go for cheap. I'm not a fan of ebay fmic's, I think I've made that clear , but if you've made your decision, they I suggest to keep looking, maybe just buy the core online and have the pipes fabbed up by a local shop. I'm not too fond of ebay quality, but if you don't have a problem with it, those kits should be okay.

Re: FMIC setups.... help me spend my money!
Yeah, its going to be far from a DD and I dont have a whole lot of money anyway, so I can deal with a little eBay "quality"
. I do have access to a welder, I will try to see if I can use it. If I can make those generic pipe kits work I will try. I would really like to just get like 10 grand and tell slowboy to have fun getting me a setup, but 32-38 hours a week at McDonalds isnt exactly going to get me a whole bunch of money.

Re: FMIC setups.... help me spend my money!
Ok, if I had to pick out of the first two intercooler kits I would pick B. I have been reading on tuners that ebay cores arnt that bad. I'm planning on getting a ebay core and making my own piping once I get back into the country. You can get some mandrel bent piping at Jc Whitney for a pretty good price. I say make your own kit, that way you can build your kit for your need and your set up.

Re: FMIC setups.... help me spend my money!
Yeah, I was just looking at slow boys short route pipeing, I dont think it'll be too hard to do. The second kit B I posted had couplers, clamps, and pipes for like $110 I think I will get that and a good sized eBay core and see what I can do.

Re: FMIC setups.... help me spend my money!
I wouldnt go with the second B kit piping. The problem isnt the piping but the couplers. They arnt reinforced so if you get enough boost going through them they will blow out. So if it was the piping I would go with kit A. Look at that site. Even tho the couplers are red they are "polyester reforced silicone hose" Which would be better then the B kit.
Edit: Oh sorry, I didnt read your post that well. I guess you already know that the couplers arnt that good. |
