Japanease readers! Please, read here,I need help!
Hey pepole!!!
I was looking around, and some doubts came upon me. I live in japan,so i have some little questions (sorry,i'm a gaijin,I dont speak nihongo.) Do we have styrene in japan? I wanna mod my kits, but i dont know if they have styrene around here! I really need some! Shoud I search it in the hobby shop? Thanks! And...Castrol Makes CSC around here??? I need CSC to strip some paint....Does anybody know?? Or something cheap that can be used in its place, that is not DOT2? (because DOT2 is expensive where i live.) Thanks a lot!

Okay, I'm not from Japan, but I'm using common sense when answering this.
1st. You should have styrene since Japan is the homeland of many model manifacturers. So, yes. You should go to your LHS and will most likely find some. 2nd. I'm guessing you mean brake fluid when you say DOT2, then I would suggest alchohol or oven cleaner (Note: Oven Cleaner doesn't work that well for me.). If you mean DOT2 when ya say it.. then I would suggest you find DOT3 or DOT4. Under personal preference I would say DOT4. Haven't been able to find CSC here in TW yet. HTH, Steve |

Medicinal alcohol. Isopropyl is a favorite, but also try denatured. The higher the concentration, the better- use 99% if you can find it. It can frequently be had in grocery stores/drug stores/chemists in the US and Europe- I didn't look for it last time I was in Japan.
It will easily strip laquers and acrylics, and may work on enamels, too. Much safer than brake fluid. Often, automotive cleaners/degreasers work well (this is what CSC is). Look for biodegradable cleaners. Some other brands it is sold as are Purple Power and Simple green- but I have no idea what it would be sold as in Japan. i suspect that orange smelling household cleaner stuff would work, too, but I haven't tried it.

But some Japanese motorsports fans might know what I'm talking about. http://www.re-amemiya.co.jp/race/gt_01/s01_gt5_2.html Or, you can try Mr. Thinner, because it's cheap over there. As for styrene, Tamiya has been making them for decades, and all major hobby stores should have them. IIRC A4 size white sheet is available in 0.3, 0.5, 1.0 and 1.2 mm thick, and clear in 0.3, 0.5 and 1.0 mm. They also have paper thin styrenes, but they aren't so common. Styrene rods come in 2.0, 3.0 and 5.0 mm diameter (or the size of the sides for rectangular rods), and 30 cm long. Also Evergreen's styrene products have been imported by Kyosho, and again they're not hard to find. Now that's when you live in urban area. Depending on where you live, you might have to use online stores instead. |
