my lame crx and its reluctance to start part... uh... three?

i keep replacing things with no success. sometimes my car starts, sometimes it doesn't. these days it doesn't matter if i've just run or if it's a cold start after sitting all night. sometimes it'll start, and sometimes it will just keep turning over and over and never start.

unless...

starter fluid. i can spray a little starter fluid into the intake and it'll start right up. mine and other peoples opinions are that the issue is that fuel isn't getting to the cylinders initially. it's a brand new fuel pump, filter, spark plugs, wires, etc, though.... and i tested the leads to the pump. they're fine. what on earth? and i get code 16 when it fails to start each time, but the injectors are new as well...

so if the pump is new and gets power, but doesn't make noise when i turn the key to the "on" position is there some kinda switch thing somewhere that could have gone out to where the car will run fine after it IS running, but will not pump gas to the engine during startup?

it's called the main relay. It's the most famous thing for going out on these cars. I would replace it with a known good one from a friends car or something. The only other thing I can think of is you may have a bad injector resistor box or faulty. Next time you get this problem check all four of your injectors for 12 volts, and check all 4 wires of the resistor box for about 6 ohms of resistance.

yep its the main relay. you can take it apart and resolder it, or just go buy a new one. you can also test it by jumping the two pins on each side.

can you explain the juumping some more? thanks. and what are some of the things that go wrong just to be sure. i will try my buddies right now. i will let you know how it goes. hey, its his fault for getting his tags removed for false ones. now it sits at my house. i will call it a charge for him letting it sit there. hope i dont blow his main relay

I can't believe you still haven't replaced the main relay. You've probably wasted tons of money. I was also thinking the resistor box too. Replace the main relay.

Yeah, youve been told it was the friggin relay more times than I can count..

well i replaced mine for a sec with my duddys and no change at all. so i guess mine is just a wiring problem when it comes to the fuel pump anyway. my blinkers dont work, hazzards, brights. i will check on this later. after my car runs and i actually need them

sounds like a fuse, relay, or ground problem. Don't forget the fuses in the engine bay.

you guys win. i'm gonna find me a main relay somewhere and swap 'em out.

i've got my sister's crx at the moment. i'm sure an 87 crx main relay won't fit an 89 crx, so... so it's that box looking thing, eh?
