idle problems when starting engine

hi, i have a 94 dodge dakota 4cyl and have a question about the operation of this truck. When i start my truck up it takes a little bit to start up and when it does i have to keep the rpm's up or else the engine will die and i will have to repeat the same steps. The engine will also die out when i let off the gas and when i am in neutral. It just seems to not idle and dies out. This is only when the truck has not been warmed up and been running for a while. It seems to start a lot easier on hotter days than the cold days. (maybe something to do with the choke)

When the truck has been warmed up and has been running for a while and it is shut off and it is started back up again then it starts easily and there is no need to give it gas to keep it running. It does not shut down when i let off the gas or in neutral.

I have checked the timing belt with a timing light and it seems to be fine. I have put new plugs, wires, rotor, and cap in.

I am thinking that it has something to do with a sensor such as the oxygen sensor or another sensor for the choke. If you could give me some ideas on what it could possibly be then that would be great.

Thanks.

Re: idle problems when starting engine

Have you checked your O2 sensor...perhaps it is choking the throttlebody until it warms up
