Check Engine Light

I have a 97 Ram 1500 w5.9l engine, dual exhaust. In the past week, I have had 3 CEL's. The first 2 were p0132. The book says 02 sensor high Bank 1 Sensor 1.
On the way home tonite, I got a p0138--02 sensor high, bank 1 sensor 2. I have a Haynes shop manual but all it tells me is where the sensors are, not which are which. It says I might have 2 or 4 sensors. Where is Bank 1, Bank 2, Sensor 1, and Sensor 2?
Thanks.

Re: Check Engine Light

You'll be able to tell how many sensors you have if you crawl underneath and have a look.

Is your truck a 2500? I think the 5.9's they put in the 3/4 ton trucks were those "heavy duty" engines and they had dual catalytic converters just like the v10 engines, so they had 4 sensors. Two sensors per converter.

I read other guy's posts on I think dodgetalk.com and they said the light duty engines had an "X" in the engine place on the VIN, and the heavy duty engines had a "5" in the engine place on the VIN. It might be the other way around, I don't remember right now.

I would check my Haynes manual but you have one and I don't feel like getting it out of my truck right now, haha. Let us know.

Re: Check Engine Light

I hope you're not thinking of changing the o2 sensors. The code simply means that it is not reading the o2 within specs so something is happening upstream of the sensors that they don't agree with.
