1999 Escort Sedan A/C Problem

The A/C compressor on my 99 Escort will not engage normally. It was operating fine then one day I heard a muffled pop and it quit working immediately. When put in A/C mode on the selector switch, I have power toand through the Cycling Switch and to the Pressure cutoff switch. Now the journey gets confusing because according to my print, the power then goes into the PDM is processed and then sent to the Continuous Control Relay and that actually engages the compressor. Does anyone know of a quick and easy way to test exactly where I am losing my power?? The compressor operates just fine because I have hotwired it directly from the cycling switch to the cmpressor (for test purposes) and it works fine, but do not want to run it like that long because I will lose overpressure and high fan safetys (not good in the Georgia heat and humidity). I am pretty well convinced that the PCM or Constant control relay are at fault but cannot figure out how to determine which one. Sidenote: Where is the PCM located on the 99 Escort?? Is it under the console?? Any assistance or wisdom would be appreciated..

I would determine which is the ac clutch relay ... and remove it ... and test the base to see if the coil is receiving 12v.

Yeah. The PCM is under the console. The Constant Contol Relay Module (CCRM) is underneath the hood under the air initake. Not enough freon will make the low pressure switch cut off the compressor. Could be low freon or a faulty switch. Check your message inbox.

See if you can get your hands on a Mitchell book... I found one in my local library that was very thorough with the wiring... including which pins on the PCM were part of which circuits. THe diagrams in those books tend to be much more detailed.
