tire psi for 17inchers

I'm new to owning 17 inch rims with the slim tires on them. What tire pressure should i keep it at for normal driving? It says 44 psi on the side but is that the max air it can hold or what? What do you guys keep it at?

Re: tire psi for 17inchers

would 35 be on the low side or would i notice a softer ride if they were 40?

Re: tire psi for 17inchers

I am guessing the higher the pressure, the stiffer the ride. What do you think?

Re: tire psi for 17inchers

I'd start with 40, then see how your tires are wearing.

Outside edges of the tire wearing first? Increase pressure.
Center of tire wearing first? Decrease pressure.

Re: tire psi for 17inchers

Umm all tires list the max PSI on the tire itself. Just put like 5 pounds less than that and you're golden.

Re: tire psi for 17inchers

I keep mine at about 35psi, rides well and isn't too bad as far as gas mileage since I believe the higher you have it (to a point though) the better gas mileage you get or something like that.

Re: tire psi for 17inchers

I keep mine at 39. Any less and handling suffers.

Re: tire psi for 17inchers

any where from 32-36 should be fine, depending on how much weight you tote around...the more air you should use, i prefer 32 on 18's
