Question Gas Gauge Broke

i have a 1988 buick regal the gas gauge along with the mileage gauge is broke. For the past 10 or so years the gas guage has stayed on full and ive ran out of gas numerous of times. In very hot wheather it will rarely give you in acurate reading along with the mileage spinning to the correct mileage numbers but happens only once every blue moon. Is something stuck behind the dash board or what any suggestions

Re: Gas Gauge Broke

It is extremely difficult to diagnose over the internet, but I too own an 88 Buick Regal. Probably one of the best cars I have ever owned. My best guess for your problem, if I were to experience this sort of thing, would be to check and/or replace the fuel sending unit for the gas guage problem. I say check first because it is an expensive part. You could check the fuel relays etc, but it probably is in the tank where the problem lies. Especially since the age of our cars are 18+ yrs old. As for the odometer, I can't say what would cause that except to possibly check that the cable is not broke. I hope this helps. I have had my car a long time and experienced alot of fixing on it. Most situations are not too unfamiliar when it comes to this car... Good luck!
