Steering Problem

92 Sentra XE 1.6 liter

Just recently I started having some steering problems. When I am driving down the highway about 70mph my car want to pull to the right really bad. I mean if I let go of the wheel it will make a hard right. With this I began to get a really bad vibration. I assume from fighting the steering. Would a simple alignment do or is it possibly something else?

Re: Steering Problem

check your tire pressures 1st. from the sound its a tire on your right side, possibly the rear one. or it could be both. have the front tires at about 32psi and the rear at 29. if that doesn't cure your problem, then it may be an alignment problem.

Question Re: Steering Problem

Actually, lately I have noticed that my steering feels a lot more loose than it used to. It has a lot of give to it, I can probably move the wheel 1-3 inches back and forth without altering my direction while at fast speeds. It's also vibrating lmore than usual at high speeds and really fighting me on rough roads. I've recently had an alignment, so I know that's not the problem. All of my tires are evened out properly as well. Any ideas?

Re: Steering Problem

inner or outer tie rod ends.
get them replaced. if they break, you WILL crash. (all those cars you see on the side of the road with a wheel facing 90 degrees from the car have broken tie rod ends.
get your ball joints checked while your at it.
also, the pull and shudder could be from alignment, but you have to get your car aligned after you replace tie rod ends anyways. but if it persists, rotate your tires, get them balanced, check tire pressure.

wow, that sucks. It's only an 03 with 73k miles on it, though. You really think I might need to replace them? If so, what kinda $$ am I looking at? And how can I tell if they need replaced by looking at them?

Re: Steering Problem

My steering is pretty tight. I lifted up the tires and there really isn't any play in the tires. Could there possibly be anything else. Tires are rotated and air is good.
