Mystery Electrical Ghosts

Okay, this has been happening intermittently for awhile and its driving me nuts how to get it fixed. I have a 2002 Grand Marquis with about 74000 miles on it. The other day its raining out and I use the wipers. When I shut them off they won't return into there off position. Hold on, it gets better. If I use the washer fluid, it supposed to wipe either 4-6 times and then return to the off position. Now it just continues to wipe and it won't shut off at all. This will go on for a week or so and then one day they just reset themselves.

I don't believe its the controller per se, I think there is a problem with the car's computer and I am wondering if there is a way to reset it without going to a dealer.

And I am wondering if anyone else has experienced these problems.

Thanks

I have had the same thing heppen on my 92 grand marquis. The problem is your turn signal switch, the wiper controls are built into the turn signal switch.
Since the 90's these switches are known to be junk.

Re: Mystery Electrical Ghosts

Thanks Reekor, I appreciate the information. Now for the big question, is this costly to fix? I expect to have the dealer do it but want to be prepared.

Thanks

Re: Mystery Electrical Ghosts

If you have a dealer do it you might be looking at $200-$250. I replaced mine in 20 minutes. You can call your local dear and get a price for the part, I know that you can get them brand new aftermarket on Ebay for about $60. In fact there is one on there right now that's a factory MOTORCRAFT part for just under $90 shipped.

Re: Mystery Electrical Ghosts

Thanks for everything Reekor. I actually called my local dealer this afternoon and he wanted $103.40 for the part, but he did have it in stock. So maybe this will give me something to do this weekend.

Thanks again for the information.
